Arashi & Horikita Maki to host NHK’s Kouhaku 2012

On October 16th it was revealed that Horikita Maki (24) and popular group Arashi have been appointed as hosts of 63rd NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen, to be broadcasted in New Years’ Eve.

This is the 3rd time for Arashi to host Kouhaku since 2010 and the first time for Horikita. After receiving positive reviews for her heroine portrayal in morning drama “Ume-chan Sensei” which ended on September 29th with an average rating of 20.7%. The first time in nine years since a morning drama achieves more than 20% ratings.

After yet another fulfilling year in Arashi’s musical career it was only natural for them to host this ceremony. Horikita has already worked in the past with some members of Arashi like, Sakurai Sho (30), Ninomiya Kazunari (29) and Matsumoto Jun (29).

Katori Shingo & Yamashita Tomohisa’s unit ‘The MOSTERS’ reveals single details

Katori Shingo (SMAP) and Yamashita Tomohisa have formed a new unitThe MONSTERS, and will be singing the theme song for their upcoming drama series, ‘MONSTERS‘ (begins airing on October 21st on TBS).

The theme song also titled “MONSTERS“ that was written and composed by Katori and Yamashita together, and was produced by Jeff Miyahara, will be released in five different editions.  Though originally set for release on November 14th,  its release date has been postponed to November 28th.

Fairies’ 5th Single, “White Angel” Announced!!

It was announced today via the official twitter of Fairies. The new single (5th) of Fairies is called White Angel (To be announced), the release date is November 14th.

The versions are:

Sexy Zone’s 3rd single tops Oricon weekly chart

It was revealed that 5-member idol group from Johnny’s, Sexy Zone, has topped Oricon’s weekly chart for the week of October 15th with their third single “Sexy Summer ni Yuki ga Furu” (released on October 3rd) having sold 95,000 copies. This marked them as the first teenage male artist in 4 years and 2 months to top the chart for three consecutive singles since their debut, with the previous record having been achieved by Hey!Say! JUMP in 2008.

“Sexy Summer ni Yuki ga Furu” includes the title track and a coupling track “Kimi no Tame Boku ga Iru“, as well as “Ame datte” sang by new unit “Sexy Boyz“, which consists with two of Sexy Zone members Matsushima Sou and Marius Yo, and 6 Johnny’s Jr. members.

Meanwhile for the latest album chart, KinKi Kids‘ Domoto Koichi’s original solo album “Gravity“ grabbed the No.1 spot selling 101,000 copies.

9nine to hold their first nationwide live house tour

It’s been revealed that idol group 9nine will be holding their first nationwide live house tour in November and December.

The tour will be called ‘Shucchou! Zenkoku Live House Hao Hao! Tour 2012‘, and the girls are scheduled to perform in Osaka, Sapporo, Fukuoka, and Nagoya. Satake Uki commented, “To make up for the times we weren’t able to meet people in other regions, we will do our best for more people to get to know 9nine through this tour.” Meanwhile, Kawashima Umika stated, “All regions, let’s not lose to Tokyo and show our energy!”

Furthermore, the members’ starring drama, ‘Hao Hao! Jiang Shi Girl ~Tokyo Denshidai Senki~‘, will begin on TV Tokyo starting October 12th. The theme song for the drama, “Yi Er! Jiang Shi feat. Hao Hao! Jiang Shi Girl‘, will be released on November 14th.

NYC’s Nakayama Yuma to star in the upcoming late-night drama ‘Piece’

On September 9th, NTV announced that NYC’s Nakayama Yuma is going to star in their upcoming late-night drama ‘Piece‘.

The drama is based on a manga of the same name by Ashihara Hinako, which has been serialized in the shojo manga magazine ‘Betsucomi‘ since 2008. Nakayama will be playing a cool college student who has to face his shadowy past after meeting a classmate from his high school days, with whom he has been going out at the time. Additional to the love story between those two, the story also contains elements of suspense as the two of them approach their past together.

Nakayama’s last lead role in a drama dates back to ‘Koishite Akuma‘ (Fuji TV) three years ago. He commented, “I’d like to create a character that all viewers will be able to connect with.”

The said ex-girlfriend will be played by actress Honda Tsubasa. Moreover you can look forward to the appearance of Johnny Jr.’s Matsumura Hokuto.

NTV is going to air ‘Piece’ every night from Saturday to Sunday at 0:55 am, with the first episode airing on October 6th.

More cast members revealed for upcoming ‘Kindaichi’ special drama

On September 1, it was announced that popular Taiwanese actress Vivian Hsu (37) would appear in the upcoming Nihon TV special drama “Kindaichi Shonen no Jikenbo  -  Hongkong Kowloon Treasure Murder Case” that will be broadcast in the winter.  It has been 11 years since she appeared in a Japanese drama as her last Japanese drama appearance was in Nihon TV’s “Honke no Yome”  back in 2001.

Vivian appears as fashion designer Ivy Liu, a key figure that is involved with the secret of and holds the key to the “Kowloon Treasure”.  She raised anticipation for her role with, “As a female who has a secretive past and who holds an important secret, my character is also a candidate for the criminal.  My character is a key person in the case.”  She continued with anticipation, “This is my first suspense drama.  I think this drama is interesting as it instills tension.”

The series is based off of the popular manga that started in 1992 as a serial in “Weekly Shonen Magazine” (Kodansha).  The manga that has been adapted to dramas several times, continues to garner a huge following even after welcoming their 20th anniversary.  Using the episode published on the July 11 issue as its base, the original writer of the story in the series, Amaki Seimaru, will, for the first time ever, write the script for the drama.  The drama revolves around a fashion show in Hong Kong thatKindaichi Hajiime’s childhood friend Miyuki attends.  During the show, “fourth-generation” Kindaichi Hajime (played by Hey! Say! JUMP’s Yamada Ryosuke) must solve an incident that arises at the event that is tied to a serial killer.

Additional cast members that will participate in the drama include stars from all around Asia.  Taiwanese idol group Farenheit’s former member Wu Zun (Wu Chun) will play Taiwanese security police Li Byron, while popular Korean group Big Bang’s V.I will play Korean exchange student Kim London.  Famous Taiwanese actor and MC Eric Tsang will play Wan Ron,“The King of Kowloon,” who ruled Kowloon in the early 90s and was assassinated by someone.

In addition, other Japanese cast members include Hey! Say! JUMP’s Arioka Daiki, who will play Kindaichi’s reliable junior and “video camera otaku” Saki Ryuji and Kiritani Kenta, who will play “Tokyo  Girly Mode” manager Takigawa Ryuta.  Arioka spoke enthusiastically with, “It is a bit strange to call Yamada my senior in the drama (as he was my junior in high school), but it is fun to film as a character that helps in solving the case.”  Kiritani also spoke enthusaistically with “In order to get people outside of Japan to say ‘Ohh!!!!’ because of the drama, I acted with my best efforts and used all of my strength.”

Sato Takeru’s ‘Rurouni Kenshin’ to be released in 64 countries

It’s been revealed that actor Sato Takeru’s starring film, ‘Rurouni Kenshin‘, will be released in 64 countries worldwide!

This was announced on September 2nd during a stage greeting for the movie. Sato expressed, “Since before we started filming, director Otomo Keishi and I talked about releasing this to the world, so I’m happy our dream has come true.”

In the first 8 days after its premiere, ‘Rurouni Kenshin’ pulled in over 1.21 billion yen (over $15 million USD) at the box office. Since then, it’s been receiving offers for distribution from various countries. Director Otomo commented, “I knew it originally had a good theme, so I’m happy to see this outcome.”

Takei, who plays the heroine in the film, stated, “I’m embarrassed, but I’m excited to see what kind of reaction we will receive from overseas. I want to go overseas with everyone!”

Although this was a surprise stage greeting, the theater was filled to capacity. Sato expressed relief saying, “I’m really happy. I wanted many people to watch it, so I have advertised it more than ever. I feel everyone’s feelings were rewarded.” Takei added, “This is my first stage greeting after it’s been screened. Today has become a special day.”

ONE OK ROCK To Provide Theme Song For New Movie "GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!"

The upcoming film "GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!" will be using ONE OK ROCK's new song "the same as..." as its theme song.

The release date for the new single has not been determined. However, a preview of the song can be heard in the preview for the movie.

"GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!" will be released in theaters on December 15th. The movie revolves around the bonds of a family. It stars Kumiko Aso,Yo Oizumi, Akira Takemura, MAH and Anna Tsuchiya.

Kanjani8 Celebrates 880,000 Movie-Goers for “EIGHT RANGER”

On Aug 31st, 34 days since Kanjani8‘s 8th year anniversary movie “EIGHT RANGER” was shown in cinemas, it was able to breakthrough 880,000 cinema-goers.

Directed by Yukihiko Tsutsumi, “EIGHT RANGER” was originally a skit performed during Kanjani8′s concerts. When it opened in last July 28th at 155 cinemas nationwide, the movie was able to attract 122,160 movie-goers that earned them JPY 157,836,200 million  in box office proceeds during the weekend opening.

The movie was able to attract more audience during the “Ladies Day” weekdays, and while most movie-goers are females, parents and children can also be seen since the movie is a hero-themed. Furthermore, it was regarded as a summer vacation movie so it was able to attract different age range.

To commemorate the immobilization of 880,000 audience, fans can get their EIGHT RANGERemoji/pictograms until Sept 28th. The emojis are for FREE and can be downloaded to any smartphone via EIGHT RANGER official movie site.
